Career Accomplishments

My debut collection of poems, A Plum Tree in Leatherstocking Country, was published in 2012 (VAC Poetry). My work has appeared in many print and online journals, including: The Adirondack Review, American Poetry Journal, Art House America, Books and Culture, Istanbul Literary Review (Turkey), The Midwest Quarterly, The Other Journal, Redactions: Poetry & Poetics, Rio Grande Review, Pyrta (India), Seneca Review, and others. My most recent book, which was named Book of the Year for 2022 by the Academy of Clergy Parish, is On the Spectrum: Autism, Faith, & the Gifts of Neurodiversity. I have worked in the field of Instructional Design, taught high school, and taught at Roberts Wesleyan College, Houghton College, and now at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ.

Career highlights at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ include teaching Literary London on-site in the UK; co-directing the Making Literature Conference; working as Editor-in-chief of Relief: A Journal of Art & Faith; working as faculty advisor to Students for Education on Neurodiversity (SEND); and building connections with students over the decades.

I came to Taylor to join a top Christian college English department that offered a full suite of opportunities in literature and creative writing, including a long-standing literary journal, a biennial conference hosting some of the finest writers in the country, and a wide variety of courses taught by talented faculty members with diverse critical and creative interests.

I love working closely with aspiring writers who are just beginning to identify themselves as artists, and just becoming committed to improving their craft. Writers need support from other writers at every stage of their lives and careers. I also like being involved daily in conversations about the relationship between art and faith. Lastly, I enjoy facilitating the discovery of the world’s great books for students who are new to serious reading and literary study.

Originally from upstate New York, I live in Hartford City, Indiana, with my wife and our two children.
